where we party and network.
Nah, we don't party like that. We just like to hang out with our semiannual fundraiser events. What's our fundraiser you ask? Selling food of course! I told you that food brings us together.
We are tight knit community. Actually, I talked about this in a video for Ouachita! In my major, we gathered together at least once per semester and have a meeting once a month. Our monthly meetings are not long. Usually we simply relayed information on what's happening in our department. We hear stories and updates from the dietetics interns here at OBU. We also plan for the fundraiser. I have held the position of fundraiser chair since 2020. Honestly I love it because this position truly utilizes my organization skill. It also helps that I work for Sodexo because we coordinated with them to order some of our ingredients for the fundraiser.
Each semester we do a fundraiser. All money goes to our department to pay for our biannual trip to FNCE. In the fall we sell baked potato lunches. As the fundraiser chair, I organized the order forms, to to-do list for us students to work, motivate the dietetics students to work, coordinate with Sodexo, and the contact person for everyone regarding the sales. Then, in the spring, we sell chocolate covered strawberries on Valentine's day.
A lot of preparation work? Yes. Assembly line is so effective at this stage. Upbeat music always help. But honestly, I look forward to these busy nights because those are the only time I see my fellow dietetics students from all school year (freshman-senior) and catch up with their lives.
We hangout too of course. We went to Heifer International at Little Rock once. We went on a hike and had a bonfire. We had a thanksgiving potluck lunch. We volunteered together (yard work usually).
We learn hard, study hard, but most of all, we have fun.
