Cooking for Summer Camp

Truly blessed. In the midst of the pandemic, an opportunity opened up for me to intern as a cook up in Houghton, NY. My high school international student director had moved to NY to become the international student director in Houghton Academy. Due to COVID, some of the international students could not go home. So he hosted a Summer Dorm Stay for them, where they can take online summer classes, fun classes, summer-camp-like activities, and just to have practice conversing in English with each other.

He needed someone to be the cook, the kitchen manager essentially, because he and his wife could not afford the energy to cook 2 meals a day for 15 kids every single day while also becoming their guardians. So there I was! Cooking and balancing budget + the high schoolers' preferences on food + nutrition.

It was wonderful because all of the international students were from Asia, just like me! I cooked in Asian style, with a few American cuisines of course. It felt like home. I was glad to connect with these younglings through food. I planned boba party for them too! See the picture galleries below to see some of the things I cooked.
